L'histoire du Jardin des Doms (Rocher des Doms)

Depuis le Néolithique, le rocher des Doms a été habité par les premiers habitants de l'histoire d'Avignon, puis par un oppidum gallo-romain et un ancien château fort au Moyen Âge. En 1830, un réservoir d'eau-château d'eau a été fondé pour fournir de l'eau potable à la ville. Le sommet du rocher, situé au nord, à côté des palais des papes d'Avignon, des jardins du palais des papes, de la cathédrale Notre-Dame-des-Doms et du musée du Petit Palais, a ensuite été transformé en un vaste jardin public.

Since the Neolithic period, the rock of the Doms has been inhabited by the first inhabitants in the history of Avignon, then by a Gallo-Roman oppidum and an old castle fort in the Middle Ages. In 1830, a water reservoir and water tower were established to provide drinking water to the city. The summit of the rock, located to the north, next to the Palais des Papes of Avignon, the gardens of the Palais des Papes, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame-des-Doms, and the Petit Palais Museum, was then transformed into a vast public garden.
