Les premiers remparts

Les remparts d'Avignon, érigés au Ier siècle sous forme d'enceinte romaine, ont un tracé approximatif englobant des rues à l'ouest, sud, est et reliant le Rocher des Doms au nord. Les historiens se basent sur des vestiges de murailles visibles à deux endroits et sur la forme rectangulaire typique des constructions romaines. Ces remparts ont duré jusqu'au XIIe siècle.

The ramparts of Avignon, built in the 1st century as a Roman wall, have an approximate layout encompassing streets to the west, south, east, and connecting the Rocher des Doms to the north. Historians rely on vestiges of walls visible in two places and the typical rectangular shape of Roman constructions to determine their layout. These ramparts lasted until the 12th century.
