About

Chalice Well and Gardens is a beautiful and sacred site located in Glastonbury, Somerset, England. It is renowned for its historical and spiritual significance, attracting visitors from all over the world. The site comprises two main areas: the Chalice Well, often referred to as the "Red Spring," and the surrounding Chalice Well Gardens.

Chalice Well:

The Chalice Well is a natural spring that has been flowing for thousands of years, making it one of the oldest continuously flowing springs in the UK. It is characterized by its reddish hue, which is caused by the high iron content in the water. The iron-rich waters are said to possess healing properties and are believed to be symbolic of the essence of life and the feminine aspect of the divine.

According to legend, the Chalice Well is believed to be the place where the Holy Grail was hidden after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. As a result, the well holds significant religious and spiritual importance for Christians and others interested in the Arthurian and Grail myths.

Chalice Well Gardens:

The Chalice Well Gardens surround the well and are an exquisite representation of tranquility and natural beauty. The gardens are well-tended and feature various plant species, including rare and unusual ones, making it a horticultural gem.

The gardens are divided into different areas, each with its unique character. Visitors can explore lush greenery, aromatic herb gardens, and serene water features. Throughout the gardens, there are spots for contemplation and meditation, making it an ideal place for spiritual seekers and those seeking inner peace.

The Sanctuary and World Peace Garden:

Within the Chalice Well Gardens, you'll find The Sanctuary, a simple yet powerful space designed for prayer, meditation, and reflection. The Sanctuary is a space where people of all beliefs can come together to find solace and connect with their spiritual selves. It is open to people from various faiths and spiritual backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity.

Additionally, the World Peace Garden is a focal point within the Chalice Well Gardens dedicated to promoting peace, harmony, and understanding among all people. It serves as a reminder of the importance of working towards global peace and healing.

Overall, Chalice Well and Gardens is a place of spiritual significance, natural beauty, and peaceful coexistence. It offers a serene retreat for those seeking spiritual connection, healing, and a sense of unity with nature and humanity. Visitors often find a sense of tranquility and renewal as they explore this sacred site, making it a popular destination for pilgrims and travelers alike.

Glastonbury and the Chalice Well was a real highlight of our UK tour. My partner's foot was arthritic and she was having trouble with the feeling of a rock in her joints. It came on a few days before our trip and we thought it would have a huge effect on the trip. After soaking her feet in the well, the foot pain was completely gone and didn't come back for the duration of the trip. It was a true healing event. Really amazing 🤩🙏

What an absolute Heaven for those that enjoy nature, meditation, and tranquillity!! It just feels you stepped into another world filled with peace and calm away from all the chaos and hustle of the world. Great place to unwind and get in touch with your higher self or unleash your creativity. I understand why writers, painters, and singers love to hang out here to find their muse. Just remember this place is not pet friendly.

Absolutely amazing gardens, the atmosphere is beautiful and walking between each section and admiring it for the nature and uniqueness was breathtaking. If you’re planning to go here, I’d recommend allocating a few hours to thoroughly enjoy it, maybe take food to sit and enjoy in the picnic field.

A beautiful, spiritual place steeped in history. The gardens themselves are a haven of tranquility. We visited three times during our short stay. Lovely gift shop with a variety of items to indulge the senses.
