Practical information

About

Built in 1751 at the request of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, the Sainte-Marthe Chapel is a discreet but elegant building, located behind the University of Avignon. Its sober two-story facade is topped by a triangular pediment, which gives it a classic look. Inside, the architecture reveals a square choir with cut-off sides, creating an atmosphere of intimacy and contemplation. This peaceful setting is perfectly suited for religious services, although the chapel is only open for these specific occasions.

Today, the Sainte-Marthe Chapel is primarily a place of spiritual gathering for students, serving as a university chaplaincy. Its location near the university makes it a privileged space for the student community who can find a place of peace and reflection there. Although it is not easily accessible outside of services, its simplicity and history make it a remarkable place for those interested in religious architecture and the spiritual life of Avignon.
